Ginza Yakiniku, Burwood

Ginza Yakiniku is a bit of a hidden gem in the midst of the restaurant mecca that is Burwood. For $59 a person, you can order off an all you can eat buffet menu with options for the bbq, as well as a range of other Japanese dishes including sashimi, sushi, takoyaki, etc. The sessions go for 100 minutes which I personally found to be ample time to devour more than my stomach size.

The main attraction on the menu is the various cuts of beef – angus beef, wagyu harami, wagyu rib finger and wagyu karubi. They’re all worth a try but the wagyu karubi is definitely the best cut of the lot. It’s the most marbled of the four cuts so is super soft and tender and melt in your mouth.

In addition to the beef, you can also order vegetables (pumpkin, sweet potato, onions, eggplant, shiitake mushrooms) and some seafood (octopus, squid or mussels) to cook on the grill. A tip for you: order the garlic in sesame oil for the grill – the garlic sizzles away in the sesame oil and becomes delightfully brown and crispy on the outside.

The quality of the non-grill food is also fantastic. The salmon and kingfish sashimi is really fresh, as is the variety of salads. My personal favourite cold dish is the tako wasabi, which is the raw octopus covered in a wasabi marinade. Strange but delicious and so refreshing! I also really enjoyed the variety of cooked food such as the deep fried squid (ika karaage), takoyaki and udon soup.

You also can order dessert – which of course I did. Taro and vanilla icecream on a bed of cereal – yum!

Overall, at $59 a pop, Ginza Yakiniku is not cheap but totally worth it for the quality and quantum of the food you can order. Also, right now they currently have a promotion for half price beer between 5:30pm and 7pm – win!
