Anatolia, Clemton Park

Anatolia is a wonderful Turkish restaurant in Clemton Park / Campsie in an unassuming location in a residential plaza just off Canterbury Road. It is definitely the hit restaurant out of the group of restaurants in Clemton Park Shopping Village with large numbers particularly on Saturday night when they often have live music and belly dancers.

I recently tried the “Adana shish grill” which is a ground lamb shoulder and lamb rib shish. My main disappointment when the plate arrived was that it only came with one skewer of the grilled lamb! Particularly given how good the meat is – the lamb is well cooked and well flavoured with herbs. The rice, as plain as it sounds, is really great with the salad and lamb and the hommus dip is just yum. My favourite item on the plate is definitely their house flat bread which served warm, is slightly chewy with a nice toasty flavour on the outside and not too greasy.

However, dessert absolutely blew me away. The baklava fried icecream for $13 is beyond delightful. Basically, it is vanilla icecream wrapped in a thin filo-type pastry which is deep fried and accompanied with baklava type flavours including a generous serving of pistachio and non-baklava flavours which elevated the dish such as coconut and strawberries. I had told myself I would only eat half the dessert but found I was unable to resist finishing the whole plate!

I can’t wait to go back and try the other dishes at Anatolia including their 19 inch pide (I saw it served to another table on the night I was there and it’s absolutely huge!) and to re-order that fried ice cream. So good!

Just one warning though, Anatolia doesn’t serve alcohol, so make sure to BYO.
