Thai by the Beach, Brighton Le Sands

Thai by the Beach is at a great location in the heart of Brighton Le Sands and a great lunch stop if you’re in the area for a swim or to do the beautiful walk from Kyeemagh down to Sans Souci (highly recommend the walk!). However, it’s not a cheap Thai restaurant (ah the uni student days when I frequented Newtown Thai restaurants for $6 a lunch) so you should set your expectations as such. That said, Thai by the Beach is often selling vouchers on Cudo / LivingSocial so you could always keep an eye out for that.

The food quality is great. I’ve had a number of dishes there and my favourite to date is a lunch special entree – deep fried fish fillets in lettuce cups with a beautiful beautiful Thai lime chilli dressing. That dressing makes the whole dish and the fish itself is not oily or greasy so the whole dish is really rather light.

The grilled seafood platter is also superb. There is a generous serving of mussels, shrimps, king prawns, and squid for $30.90 so with a side dish or an entree dish, could be shared between two. The dipping sauce that the platter is served with is out of this world and takes me right back to my recent trip in Thailand where I consumed copious amounts of grilled seafood.

Thai by the Beach also do the Thai basics well. I love the novelty of having my pineapple fried rice served in a pineapple and it’s just a delicious flavourful dish with a great balance in texture between the rice, seafood, pineapples and the crunchy cashew nuts.

The pad see iew is also delicious and like all the other food I have tried at Thai by the Beach, it tastes fresh. The chef definitely doesn’t overdo the stir-frying with the noodles and vegetables holding shape and texture.
