If you do a search for food in Campsie, Albee’s consistently pops up on the various sites as one of the top rated restaurants in the area. It a Malaysian joint with cheap prices, large portions and efficient service. I wouldn’t say it’s the tastiest Malaysian I’ve had but it definitely hits the grease spot on a Friday night – and I’ll definitely be returning to try their soups. My dining companion and I had massive food envy of our neighbouring diners who ordered beautiful looking bowls of fish soup and laksa. Yum.
The best find of the evening for me were these little deep fried prawn crackers though my dining companion did point out that they were more shrimp-like than prawn-like but hey, semantics. They were crispy and well seasoned, providing a nice start to the meal.

The other dish which was ‘interesting’ was this Seafood & Pork Roll which was a deep fried beancurd roll with minced pork and seafood inside. I enjoyed the beancurd skin but wasn’t too impressed by the filling.

In comparison, our mains were decent but nothing to rave about (though perhaps we chose wrong by not getting a noodle or soup dish!). The seafood sambal fried rice and the Four Treasures sambal stirfry vegetables were tasty but could have done with way way way more sambal flavour. The vegies were also a little too greasy for my liking and the seafood and rice ratio was The great thing about both the mains though was that they had stinky beans or petai! I don’t think I’ve ever had it before, at least in a Sydney restaurant, so it was a nice surprise though the bitter / odd flavour is still growing on me.
Overall, the meal could have been better but there were so many other dishes of potential on the menu we didn’t get to try that I’m willing to go back and give them another go.
