I am so incredibly ashamed that it has taken me this long to try Frango’s. I think I’ve tried other places in Petersham, but never Frango’s. The line outside, at 3pm on a Sunday (by no means lunch time in my opinion) said it all.
You can get takeaway or wait for a table noting that you do pay a tad bit more for eating in (e.g. half a chicken + chips + can of drink for $12.50 takeaway versus half a chicken + chips for $16.00 eat in). We chose to eat in, simply because I was too hungry at 3pm to take the food home to devour it. I don’t know how many Portuguese chickens they cook over the charcoal every day but it was definitely consistently busy the whole time I was there. The service is friendly and importantly, fast, because they need to be with all those people.

In case you’ve never tried it, Portuguese chicken is butterflied and typically served with a Peri Peri sauce which has garlic, lime and chilli. The Frango’s chicken is tender and definitely not dry, whilst holding onto that beautiful charcoal flavour on the outside. Their sauce is to die for – just so much flavour!!! Their mayo is also good – very smooth and creamy. We had a whole chicken between 2 people (protein! I swear I was exercising before this meal…), small fries and a can of soft drink for $32. It’s just amazing. If you like thin-ish fries, you’ll also like their fries – not too brown, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. You may very well find me back there next weekend at 3pm (no doubt in need of more protein from all the exercise I do… just joking, I don’t really exercise)
