The Duck Inn, Chippendale

I love specials and sales and online deals. Groupon, Livingsocial, Scoopon etc are frequently visited by me during my spare time. I’m not sure if by disclosing my enjoyment of restaurants that market themselves on those sites, that I am diminishing the credibility of this blog, but I’m a firm believer that good food and good venues aren’t always the ones that feature in the top 20 in Sydney lists.

The Duck Inn is a wonderful pub in Chippendale and a fine example of a venue that chose to market itself through those online coupon/deal sites. I had previously heard good things about The Duck Inn from some friends and so I was more than excited when they had a deal for $29 for a duck tasting platter for 2 with a glass of wine each.

Firstly, I have to say I love the atmosphere of the restaurant area at The Duck Inn. It is warm and inviting, and has a country home type feel.

My favourite item on the platter were the duck bonbons (those round fried things in the middle). They’re the only hot item on the platter, made from strands of duck meat with a sweet hoisin flavour. My second favourite item were oddly, the pickled vegetables, in particular the onions. Overall, it was a tasty platter, but I think the real appeal of the evening was the discovery of a cosy local pub with some fine dishes on the menu that I can’t wait to come back and try (think burgers and bangers and mash and even a whole roast duck!)
