Ciccone & Sons – gelato in Redfern

I am constantly delighted by the chance to try new gelato in the hood and one Saturday night a bit of Googling revealed that instead of having to drive to Messina in Rosebery, I could also try Ciccone & Sons.

I almost walked past it that night – it’s not a huge joint and having been trained by Messina to associate gelato with hoards of people waiting outside, Ciccone & Sons was remarkably quiet.

There is also a much shorter list of flavours, around 10 of them. But menu size need not be everything, because the gelato I had that night was the best and most refreshing gelato I have had in awhile. I tried the buttermilk and passionfruit and the coconut. Both flavours had very strong flavours, and I loved loved loved the buttermilk and passionfruit. It was super creamy but not too rich, and the passionfruit wasn’t overpowering or too sour.

As a new feature of my blog, I’d like to introduce the Gelato-scale. There are only a few things I feel from eating / drinking experience that I am qualified to ranked quantitatively and gelato, and coffee for that matter, are two of them for now.

Ciccone & Sons hits a 9 / 10 on my Gelato-scale.

Details: Ciccone & Sons, 195 Regent St, Redfern NSW 2016
